Branching scenario assessments in Articulate Storyline
Branched scenarios are a great way of allowing learners to develop practical skills without the fear or risk of failure. Branched scenarios are set up with three components:
- Challenge
- Choice
- Consequence
The challenge poses a real-life scenario to the learner. For example, if you’re training a sales assistant on complaint handling, the challenge might be surrounding a customer returning a faulty item.
You would then provide your learner with numerous choices, with one right answer, one wrong answer, and the other answer(s) being somewhat right, but not the perfect response.
The learner’s choice will then influence the consequence and will then take them onto the next stage of the branched scenario dependant on their choice.
How is this different from a standard quiz?
Both quizzes and scenarios pose challenges and ask users for their input, however, quizzes are linear and scenarios aren’t. This means that when a learner selects an answer in a quiz it will not influence their learning path, whereas an answer in a scenario would direct the route they take through the learning path.
