Jump-start your eLearning courses with the jump-to-time trigger

Articulate have released a new trigger for Storyline 360 and it’s something we never knew we needed. The jump-to-time trigger opens up a new world for creating interactivity for videos, branched scenarios and software simulations – just about anything you can imagine in Storyline 360!

For example, you can give your learners a list of topics being covered in a video, and then use the jump-to-time trigger to go directly to the point where each topic begins.

How does it work?

When you add a new trigger, select the ‘jump to time/cue’ option from the drop-down list, and choose the point you’d like to jump to, it’s as easy as that!

Have a look at some of the different options on how you can put the jump-to-time trigger to use:

Jump to time

If you know the exact second that you would like the learner to skip ahead to, select time and then type the second you want to jump to into the box.

Not only can you jump to a specific time on the current slide but you can also control the independent timeline of different layers in the slide. To do this, you can create jump-to-time triggers for each visible layer in the slide – making this feature even more powerful.

Jump to Cue Point

Cue points in Storyline 360 allow you to bookmark a specific moment and precisely align objects on the timeline. If you have used cue points in your slide or slide layer, all you need to do is select the correct cue point that you would like to jump to and click OK.

Jump Forward/Backward

You can also use the jump-to-time trigger to jump forwards or backwards incrementally in your chosen slide. To jump forwards, simply select forward/backward under the time option and type the number of seconds you would like to jump forward to. To  jump backwards, add a minus sign in front of the number of seconds.

Jump to Start/End of Timeline

Not only can you do all of that but you can also allow your learners to jump to the start/end of timeline. To do this, select either ‘Start of Timeline’ or ‘End of Timeline’ under the option of ‘Time’ and click OK.

And it really is as simple as that to use the jump-to-time trigger. With this trigger, you can truly build advanced interactions and give your learners new ways to navigate your eLearning courses.
